How to tackle the spring cleaning tasks right
For the best results, enter spring cleaning with a good attitude and mindset. This is the moment when you can redesign your home to support your family’s goals to declutter things that do not serve you. “Every piece you own owns a piece of you” as Rob Dial said in a thought-provoking Spring Cleaning episode on The Mindset Mentor Podcast.
The truth is that you will feel so much lighter when you have gotten rid of useless things. Spring cleaning can be done for the items, as well to transform your mind and mindset.
Depends on how you approach the spring cleaning.
Identify yourself and you’ll become more productive
The trick that I learned from Sina Port to tackle difficult tasks and to be productive is to imagine you are a movie character. You can choose a character you know or create one. The movie characters do not hesitate, they are confident and enter from one situation to another. By identifying yourself as a person who is productive and efficient you’ll suddenly become one.
“I am the most confident person, I can tackle even difficult things easily. I clean and arrange my home effortlessly so that it supports our family goals. I can easily let go of things that are no longer serving us and do not help us anymore on our journey. “
Make it beautiful, make it fun
If you think about spring cleaning as daunting, think about how you could make it more beautiful or more fun. A beautiful, comfortable dress, and cleaning gear that works and looks pleasant. Listen to your favorite podcast or some uplifting music.
I used to work in a fine dining restaurant where the chefs cleaned the kitchen from top to bottom three times a day. When the moment came to clean it all up and polish the surfaces, they put the “Shine Bright Like a Diamond” by Rihanna. And every single one knew that now we make this kitchen shine.
It gave that uplift and good mood better than just someone yelling “Let’s clean up now!”.
Get the dopamine from crossing off the tasks
If you enjoy crossing off the tasks and seeing how you advance in your cleaning, consider using a spring cleaning checklist. Check boxes show you room by room what you have already accomplished and give you the needed dopamine rush to move forward.
Give yourself a timeframe
So that you will not get frustrated or exhausted, give yourself a reasonable timeframe. Maybe one deep-cleaned room per week would be a good timeframe, or if you feel that the spring cleaning spurt is too overwhelming, spread your cleaning tasks throughout the year.
