Refreshing iced mint latte recipe with homemade mint syrup
Make your own iced mint latte with homemade mint syrup and strong espresso to cool down on a hot summer day! Brew this smooth iced coffee at home for one or to serve a crowd.

With a natural lifestyle, I try to find alternatives to the shop-bought items, and well, I love iced mint coffees. It is not good money-wise to buy throughout the summer, and in shops, they are always sold in plastic bottles and with plenty of additives and sugars. When you make your own mint sugar syrup at home and measure it into your iced coffee, you can choose for yourself how much is good for you.
Not only iced lattes, but with my strong coffee cravings, I have dabbled with French press brewed iced coffees, and coffee mocktails as well, that you should check out! If mint is your friend overall, you should taste my other summer cooler, the iced Moroccan mint tea, too. Tips for making
- Always use a freshly brewed coffee (if you are not using a cold brew coffee).
 - Choose Moroccan mint whenever you can, for it is unbelievably strong in both scent and flavor.
 - Build your latte in the correct order: first ice, then milk, then syrup, and lastly espresso. If you pour syrup over ice, it might freeze into lumps and not mix well. When you mix milk and syrup first and then pour the espresso, you get the Instagrammable iced mint latte where milk and coffee stay beautifully unmixed.
 - Make more mint simple syrup in one go, so you can mix your iced lattes throughout the summer in seconds.

Ingredients you need for the iced mint latte
- Caster sugar: Use plain white sugar for the right consistency and brighter color.
 - Fresh mint leaves: Use Moroccan mint whenever you can, for it is extremely strong in scent and flavor compared to the other mint varieties. If you want to use dry mint leaves, use half of the amount in the recipe card.
 - Milk of your choice: I love this iced mint latte recipe with semi-skimmed cow milk and both nutty almond milk and oat milk. You can try with your favourite milk, whether it is cow milk or plant-based milk. Let me know in the comments below what your best choice is!
 - Espresso: Always use freshly made espresso. I am using a simple Chiato espresso machine with one shot of espresso; feel free to double the espresso for a stronger iced latte.

How to make an iced mint latte at home
Start making the iced latte by simmering the mint simple syrup. If you have already mint syrup at home, jump directly to step two.
Step one: Make mint simple syrup
Measure water and mint leaves into the saucepan and bring it to a boil. Remove from the heat and let steep for 8 to 10 minutes. If you want stronger flavors, you can steep a bit longer.
Strain the mint leaves off and reserve the liquid. Measure the volume of the mint tea you have and pour it into the saucepan. Add the same amount of sugar into the saucepan and bring it to a boil. Let the sugar dissolve and bottle into a glass jar and store airtightly. You can make more mint simple syrup in one go to have it on hand for your iced latte or even iced teas!
Step two: Build the iced mint latte
Brew the espresso. Toss into the glass the ice cubes, and pour milk on top. Pour in the mint simple syrup and stir lightly. Pour the espresso shot on top and decorate with a few mint sprigs.

Storage
The iced mint latte does not store well for the espresso changes the flavour in fridge, but make ahead the mint syrup to keep it on hand to mix your homemade mint latte, hot or cold in minutes.
How to tweak this recipe
- Add some seeds of vanilla bean or vanilla extract.
 - Use whole milk for a richer flavor.
 - Add some chocolate sauce or melted chocolate with the espresso before pouring into the iced latte for an iced mint chocolate latte.
