Natural Lifestyle Habits You Should Start in 2026
Here are the best natural lifestyle habits for 2026 to help you balance your life into a more intentional and relaxed one. Living naturally is one way to slow down the rhythm of life and get on the track where you have control over your own life and maintain and cherish what you have.

So what natural living actually is?
Natural living generally means living in harmony, with yourself, nature, and the earth, and being more aware to make more sustainable, intentional, and conscious choices.
- For one it means only being organic food, favoring local production, or cooking all from scratch.
- For others, it is more the ways to avoid plastic at home, choosing alternative materials to obtain a zero-waste home.
- For the third person, it is about finding ways to avoid overconsumption, creating unnecessary waste, and using nature as an extension of your home by following your own habits to achieve a stable harmony. I consider myself to be mostly like the third person.

From that perspective, I have listed the habits below that have been cornerstones for me in creating a balanced, natural lifestyle.

Easy natural habits to start with
These few habits are game changers in day-to-day life to bring more joy and confidence and to make your daily life more easy. Let’s start with these for they are simple to do without any knowledge.
- Buying whole food without labels or packages.
- Walking in the forest regularly soothes your head and releases tension.
- Brewing your own tea to enjoy the moment and feel the calmness that it brings.
- Simplifying everyday life: keeping the staples in the kitchen and tweaking sometimes more out of the norm.
- Cooking from scratch.
Habits of creating less waste and repurposing
Planning is a key to balancing consumption.
With planning, you make food in reasonable amounts for the family size. You buy the right things for your pantry and fridge, and you stay on top of the ingredients you have in hand.
- Carrying a reusable grocery bag instead of buying a plastic bag every time.
- Repurposing items: an empty tiny jam jar for lip balm, a baby mattress into an Ottoman cushion, or wine boxes turned into pieces of furniture.
- Using leftovers dinner for the next day’s lunch instead of tossing
- Using the FIFO (First in first out) system to decrease food waste and checking the fridge and pantry regularly for any soon-to-be outdated items.
- Using natural materials in decoration to create natural wreaths or making beeswax candles.
Habits of maintaining and exchanging
These habits keep belongings in good shape and extend their lifespan. The goal is to create less waste and find resourceful ways to avoid buying things at first.
- Maintaining your belongings regularly. Bike, car, or baby trolley, whatever you drive, maintain it to keep it in the best condition.
- Pausing before tossing a broken thing into the garbage: can it be fixed? If not, can it be recycled completely, or even some parts of it?
- Borrowing and lending, from friends, from the library.
- Selling or donating items that are not needed or the right size anymore.

Habits of looking ahead
For a sustainable life, looking beyond today is crucial. Our own actions will make an impact, and it is good to reflect on that from time to time.
- Doing a quick research on things you are buying new, and choosing the more compostable, reusable, or sustainable option that will last longer.
- Seeing nature as an extension of your pantry: Blueberries for the blueberrypie, stinging nettles for the nettle pancakes, oxalis for the pesto…
- Learning new skills and educating yourself to multiply the opportunities and possibilities for your skills has no limits, and nature is vast.
